Net Zero Reporting Maturity Assessment

Global Consumer Goods

Key Lessons Learned:

A comprehensive review of Net Zero reporting is the essential starting block for net zero or transition planning, done well, it gives organisations a clear view of the challenges ahead, the gaps they need to close, and the priorities that will shape an informed, actionable strategy.

Challenge

A global consumer goods firm wanted to assess the maturity of its climate reporting against emerging best practice. However, climate‑related disclosures were scattered across multiple internal documents, sustainability reports, investor updates, and regional publications. This fragmentation made it difficult for leadership to assess consistency, identify gaps, or understand how their reporting compared to peers. They needed a single, coherent view to inform strategic decisions on where to focus next.

Solution

We applied our four‑stage framework to create a unified view of reporting maturity.

  • Phase 1: Consolidate and validate what matters: we gathered all climate‑related disclosures across the organisation, including internal and external sources.

  • Phase 2: Review and assess the current state: we benchmarked disclosures against best practice, peer approaches, and existing and emerging framework and standards.

  • Phase 3: Prioritise and design practical solutions: we translated data gaps, maturity issues and inconsistencies into clear prioritised improvement plan.

  • Phase 4: Support implementation: we structured recommendations to guide future stratgey, streamline internal processes, and improve alignment across functions and regions.

Outcome

The organisation gained a complete, integrated view of its climate reporting maturity for the first time. This enabled leadership to make informed, strategic decisions about where to invest effort, which disclosures to strengthen, and how to build a more coherent narrative for investors and stakeholders. The process also laid the groundwork for a more efficient, centralised reporting model that reduces duplication and improves clarity.
